POLICE PRESS RELEASE
The attention of the Rivers State Police Command, has been drawn to a speculative story captioned, “community storms Police Command with monarch’s corpse” which featured on page 7 of The Punch Newspaper dated 24th July, 2016.
The story is not only disturbing but embarrassing to the Command, especially with the grave allegation of Police complicity in the murder of late Chief Levi Ndorbu Korgbara and taking sides with the rival community. Clearly the allegation is unfounded and an irony of fate. The Police cannot be said to embark on a peace talk and there again kill somebody coming to make peace. Apparently this is baseless and existed only in the writer’s imagination.
Consequently the Command wishes to state unequivocally that late Chief Levi Ndorbu Korgbara was never invited by the police in the first place but was said to have attended a marriage ceremony in his community and on his way back, was attacked and killed within his community and not on his way to the Police Station.
To this end the Command urges the public to discountenance the story as being untrue as we will ever remain professional in the discharge of our statutory duties.
