Officials: At Least 1 Dead In Fiery Crash On Southern State Parkway

BAY SHORE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A car erupted into a massive ball of fire Sunday morning after being involved in a crash on the Southern State Parkway.

The Department of Transportation told CBS2’s Ilana Gold that at least one person died in the crash in the westbound lanes between exits 40 and 41 in Bay Shore.

A stretch of the highway was shut down for hours Sunday morning, but just before 8 a.m., police had cleared the scene and traffic was moving again.

Video shows one of the cars engulfed in a massive blaze, with flames shooting in all directions.

It was unclear Sunday morning how many people were in the car when it caught on fire or if any of them were able to escape before it went up in flames.
