FREEHOLD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Prosecutors on Tuesday claimed an off-duty Neptune Township, New Jersey police officer shot and killed his wife, and then began a standoff with police as he allegedly turned the gun on himself in Asbury Park.
Philip Seidle, 51, was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child following the incident Tuesday morning, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s office.
Asbury Park police were called around 11:26 a.m. to a report of an unrelated car crash, when they saw Seidle’s wife, Tamara Seidle, driving a black 2012 Volkswagen Jetta turn a corner onto Sewall Avenue in Asbury Park before crashing into a parked 2002 Ford Focus, prosecutors said.
