Owen Wilson Gives Action Thriller Genre Another Shot In ‘No Escape’ – Watch

Just as his Wedding Crashers co-star Vince Vaughn is segueing to more serious fare with the second season of HBO’s True Detective, Owen Wilson is making another go in the action realm with the Weinstein Co.’s Labor Day opener No Escape, his first serious bullets-and-chase feature, sans comedy, since 2001’s Behind Enemy Lines ($91.8M worldwide B.O.).  In No Escape Wilson plays an American who moves his family to Southeast Asia, only to find themselves in the throes of a violent political uprising. The film is directed and written by John Erick Dowdle with his brother Drew Dowdle also co-penning. Lake Bell plays Wilson’s wife while Pierce Brosnan stars as a government agent trying to help Wilson’s protagonist. Film opens on Sept. 2 against Relativity’s Natalie Portman western Jane Got a Gun and Sony’s comedy Kitchen Sink.
